Minze Diary Pod Gives Researchers Real-Time Insights in a Study That Reveals the Onset of Botox in OAB Treatment.

This study utilized the Minze Health Diary Pod, an app-controlled automated urine collection device, to capture real-time data and investigate the precise onset of the Botox® treatment’s effect on overactive bladder (OAB) patients. Let’s explore why objective data matters and how the Minze Diary Pod transforms the landscape of LUTS treatment studies.

7 Reasons Why the Minze Diary Pod Is Transforming the Landscape of Research and Clinical Trials

Objective, consistent and accurate Data: The Diary Pod provides researchers with objective and consistent data on patient variables, such as urge, voiding frequency and volume. This eliminates manual input errors and ensures accurate and reliable measurements for analysis.

Real-Time Monitoring: The Diary Pod enables real-time monitoring of patient data. This provides timely insights into treatment efficacy, patient compliance and allows for prompt adjustments if needed.

User-Friendly and Patient Compliance: The Diary Pod's user-friendly design makes it easy for patients to record their data accurately, promoting better compliance in research studies and clinical trials. Its user-centric design ensures accessibility for all users, including elderly patients.

Streamlined Data Management: The Diary Pod, coupled with a digital platform like the Clinician Portal, streamlines data management processes. It allows for efficient data organization, storage, and retrieval, saving time and effort for researchers and facilitating smooth collaboration within research teams.

Improved Study Outcomes: The Diary Pod's accurate and real-time data collection contributes to better study outcomes by providing researchers with detailed insights into treatment effectiveness, patient response, and variability.

Cost and Time Efficiency: The automated data collection and management facilitated by the Diary Pod reduce the administrative burden on researchers and streamline study processes. This leads to cost and time savings, enabling researchers to focus more on data analysis and interpretation.

The study

The purpose of this study was to investigate the exact onset of action of Botox® (onabotulinumtoxin A detrusor injection (OnabotA-DI)) in patients with OAB. Although OnabotA-DI has been approved as a treatment for OAB, limited data exists regarding the timing of its effects in the days following the therapy. Other studies have only noted that it can be expected after around 1–2
weeks, but when exactly can the patient expect the first relief from the burdensome voiding frequency?

This study aimed to address this gap by utilizing an app-controlled, automated bladder diary called the Minze Health Diary Pod, which enabled real-time documentation of the treatment effect of OnabotA-D.

17 patients (15 women and 2 men, aged 33 to 83 years) eligible for OnabotA-DI treatment were asked to keep a voiding dairy for 3 days before and up to 3 weeks after therapy using the Minze Flow app.

Why was the Minze Diary pod chosen?

The Minze Diary Pod, a Bluetooth-connected void measuring cup, was chosen for this study due to its valuable features. It provided objective and consistent data, allowing researchers to collect real-time information on voiding patterns. The Diary Pod is connected to a guided bladder diary app, directly sending data to the Minze Clinician Portal enabling researchers to access the results at any time.

The Minze Flow app is designed with a user-friendly interface, making it accessible to individuals of all ages, including elderly patients. Its intuitive design and ease of use ensures that patients can easily engage with the device and consistently document their voiding patterns, drinking behavior and leakage episodes.

The app provides step-by-step guidance to patients, ensuring accurate and precise measurements. This guidance feature helps patients achieve consistent and reliable data collection, enhancing the overall accuracy and compliance of the study results.

The Clinician Portal also played a crucial role in this study by providing real-time access to the results obtained from the Minze Diary Pod. This Clinician Portal functioned as a secure and privacy-compliant cloud-based platform, serving as a centralized hub for healthcare providers, researchers and study managers to monitor, analyze, and manage the data collected from patients.

Study results and key learnings:

  1. Botox® (OnabotA-DI) is an effective therapy for OAB that can provide significant relief from symptoms such as urinary urge incontinence, frequency, urgency, and nocturia.
  2. Previous studies have shown that the onset of action for OnabotA-DI occurs within one to two weeks, but there is limited data on the exact timing of the therapy’s effect in the days immediately following the injection.
  3. This study utilized the Minze Diary Pod, an app-controlled automated bladder diary, to document the real-time onset of action of OnabotA-DI. The Minze Diary Pod proved to be user-friendly, even for elderly patients, and allowed for reliable and high-quality data collection.
  4. The results of the study demonstrated that the effect of OnabotA-DI sets in from the first postoperative days, contrary to previous knowledge. Patients experienced a continuous reduction in micturition frequency, with significant changes observed from day 5 onwards.
  5. Regarding 24-hour voiding, the mean values decreased significantly (p < 0.05) after the intervention. On day 5, the average decreased to 9.17 micturitions, further reducing to 8.75 on day 10, 7.17 on day 15, and 5.75 on day 20. The reduction in micturition frequency was consistent during both daytime and nighttime.
  6. Despite high variability, the mean micturition volume showed a significant increase from an average of 194.8 mL before the injection to 244.1 mL on the ninth day after the injection.
  7. The Minze Diary Pod is a valuable tool for clinicians and researchers, providing them with objective and real-time data to validate treatment effectiveness. With its reliable measurements and integration with the Clinician Portal, the Diary Pod strengthens the credibility of research findings and offers valuable insights for future studies.
